University of Queensland researchers are developing lead-free indoor photovoltaic technology designed to harvest light for wearable health devices. The goal is to create low-toxicity, efficient power sources for tools such as glucose sensors, ECG patches, and sweat-based monitoring devices without relying on batteries that need regular charging.

The work is still moving toward a prototype, not a finished product. But safer, energy-autonomous sensors could be especially useful for people managing chronic conditions and for communities where frequent charging or replacement is more difficult.
