The Ocean Cleanup removed about 463,000 pounds of plastic and other waste from a river system before it could reach the Gulf of Honduras. The work focuses on stopping trash where floods and waterways carry it toward the sea.

Cleaning up waste already in the environment matters, and so does preventing the next load from traveling downstream. The project shows how targeted action at one bottleneck can protect coastlines, marine life, and the communities that depend on healthy water.
