Deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon fell to its lowest first-half level in a decade, according to satellite data from Brazil’s National Space Agency. The area cleared between January and June 2026 was 38% lower than during the same months of 2025.
One encouraging number does not solve the pressure facing the rainforest, especially with drought and fire risks ahead. But it shows that protection can produce results, and that policy, monitoring, and enforcement still have the power to change what happens on the ground.
