Team Terrapin, a partnership involving Jacksonville University, Turtle Survival Alliance, Florida State Parks, and other conservation partners, is marking ten years of diamondback terrapin research in northeast Florida. Students and volunteers have helped collect observations across coastal marshes, and the program released its first rehabilitated terrapin back into the wild this spring.
Long-term conservation often depends on patient local knowledge. Repeated surveys help researchers understand how terrapins use changing coastal habitats, while community participation expands the reach of the work and gives more people a reason to care for the marsh.
