Barley, a golden retriever living with epilepsy, had lost much of her energy and spark. Then Louie, a tiny duckling, arrived, and the two formed an unlikely bond: Louie follows Barley as if she were his mother, while Barley treats the duckling as her own.

Their friendship is tender, funny, and wonderfully specific. It also shows how companionship can arrive from an unexpected direction, bringing play and purpose back into a life that had become smaller.
