Eighteen endangered black-footed ferrets were released near Seligman, Arizona, in a conservation effort to rebuild the species in its historic range. The release is part of the careful, continuing work required to return a species to the landscape.
Recovery is rarely one dramatic moment. It depends on habitat, monitoring, disease management, and many releases over time. Each animal placed back into suitable grassland represents another chance for a population to become self-sustaining.
