When Michael Jensen began volunteering at a food bank in Port Townsend, Washington, he worried about having to limit what people took. Instead, he often met neighbors who needed encouragement to take their share because they wanted to leave enough for everyone else.
His account of those encounters struck a chord online. By the October 6 report, the Jefferson County Food Bank Association had received about $3,000 in digital donations, mostly small gifts, after he shared his experience.
